Blessings in a Simple Life
There are tiny glimpses of miracles everyday in life; I am writing this blog as a way to keep track of the simple joys that God has given me in an ordinary day.

I went to my endocrinologist Thursday and got my flu shot, bloodwork mania, and lecture. You know, the usual.

It is freezing in Boone right now. Yeah, 44 in the late morning. I could do without the cold, but am glad that we finally got some rain. NC is in a horrible drought right now, so I am hoping this will help us get through Winter at least without a dry well and dry reservois in Boone.

Wes had a great week at Fort Fisher last week doing SWAT training. He is going to be the team's "Shieldman". When they have to enter a hostile building, Wes is the first in holding a Kevlar shield to protect the men behind him. I guess they figured he wasn't afraid of bullets after he's already been shot once! = ) He is also one of the two new Lieutenants at the Sheriff's Office. I am very proud of him! Not many men get such a high rank at the age of 29. It is barely a pay raise, but it is great for his career.

Abigail is soooo excited about Halloween. She wanted to be Mulan, so we went to a HUGE costume place in Hanes Mall Thursday. MANY costumes Jamie wants for funtime, but no Mulan. We went to the Disney store, just in case, and lo it was there! Hurray Mommy! She is going to be Mulan. And, it is long with long sleeves, so we can put tights or long underwear under if needed since our forcast this week is freezing...literally. 28-32. Aiden is going to be a firefighter to help those around us remember to pray for the families in CA and for Roxy's friends Jamie and Richard who recently lost their home in KS. Aiden doesn't care what he dresses as, so I figured we'd do something with a cause. Mommy is dressing as mommy seeing as all of her costumes are from FL and will provide no warmth. We are not doing the annual Nana Fall Party this year since we've had so many issues with the kids' parents at our church, so Nana and Grampa took the A-Team to the Greenway in Wilkesboro Saturday night for the Parade of Little Spooks (a long trail with candy givers for miles that your kids walk looking like little cuties. The kids are the parade.)

Mom also got Aiden and Abigail Christmas suits at Belk while we were at the mall. They will look adorable. Aidens sweater has a pickup on the front hauling a Christmas tree in the back and Ab's is a dark blue velet dress with a small sequin design at the neck. I'll take pictures close to Christmas so you guys can see my angels!

I painted a new wall at our church. It has puzzle pieces in it like the Autism Awareness ribbon so that when our members see it, it will remind them to pray for the children with Autism and for their amazing families. I posted a picture of it in my albums, so check it out. When you see it, say a prayer. God can do all things.

Please also keep our decision to leave our church in your prayers. It has been very difficult to decide this, but Wes and I feel it is God's will for us. It may be that God wants us to try every church in our county just to show us that we belong at Perkinsville. It might also be that God wants us to become members elsewhere for a reason we do not yet know. But one thing is sure, and that is that our family is not growing spiritually where we are, so we need to leave. I have forgiven the people for their careless words and actions, but it is bringing Wes down spiritually, and I feel it is a matter of time before it takes a negative affect on Abigail and Aiden. Abby is already starting to say some things about not wanting to go to church because some of the children say that they are not allowed to be her friend. At her age, there is very little I can do to make her understand that some grown-ups aren't nice for such silly reasons. Please pray that God will show us His plan, and where He would like us to be. Your prayers are so greatly appreciated!

I took a personality test today (based on Watson Brame) and found my result interesting. I thought some of you might enjoy reading it, since most of you were psych majors or minors. It might help you understand me a bit more!

"Your Personality Is
Idealist (NF)

You are the most rare of personalities.
You are a passionate, caring, and unique person.
You are good at expressing yourself and sharing your ideals.
You are the most compassionate of all types and connect with others easily.
Your heart tends to rule you.
You can't make decisions without considering feelings.
You seek out other empathetic people to befriend.
Truth and authenticity matters in your friendships.
In love, you give everything you have to relationships.
You fall in love easily.
At work, you crave personal expression and meaning in your career.
With others, you communicate well.
You can spend all night talking with someone.
As far as your looks go, you've likely taken the time to develop your own personal style.
On weekends, you like to be with others.
Charity work is also a favorite pastime of yours. "

This one will be quick because my head and stomach currently only let me sit up for so long.

I have joked about this in the past, but I am starting to wonder why this is happening. Every October, Wes goes to at least one week-long class for work out of town. He went to one from the 7th to the 11th. during which Aiden was sick. Now, he is leaving tomorrow for a week. That is fine with me. I honestly enjoy the break. The problem is that for the past four years, since Abby was a baby, when Wes was gone in October, she, Aiden, or I have been horribly ill. Bingo. All three of us are very sick with some virus that I'd kick it's tail if it were tangible. So far, Aiden is down 4 pounds, Abby is down 3, and I am down 12. Even if we get better by Monday, it will take us the whole week to recover from it. I am starting to dread the entire month of October, seeing as we are 4 for 4. I know this isn't the most cheerful blog, but I seriously needed to vent and read my words since the Phenergan makes them a little swimmy in my mind. We will be fine, though. We always are!

Aiden was having a "bad ear day" and even the Elmo socks didn't get him to smile. = (

As many of you know, Aiden has had quite the struggle throughout the past two years with feeling good. He was born in respiratory distress, which attributed to his asthma. He began severe seasonal and environmental allergies at four months old. Whenever his allergies cause a wee bit of nasal congestion, he developes an ear infection that will last two weeks and will only go away with antibiotics and prescription decongestants. He averages one ear infection every three weeks. So yesterday, when he woke up from his nap lethargic and with a temperature of 102.8, I knew it was his ears again. After all, he spent two hours in the morning the previous day outside playing in the sand by Nana's creek, so he had to get some nosey yuck Saturday night! This morning, he was still lethargic and his fever would not drop for Tylonel and Motrin. We already had an appointment scheduled with a local ear/nose/throat specialist, so I brought him in to see Dr. Ford before calling the pediatrician's office. Well, Dr. Ford got an earful when he came into the room so little guy is now scheduled for tubes to be put in his ears, an adnoidectomy, and allergy testing to be done on my birthday, November 13. He does have bilateral acute otitis media, sinusitis. allergic rhinitis, and tonsilitis currently. This is the first time it involved the tonsils, so I am hoping it will also be the last since he refuses to eat. The tonsils are swollen so largely that they are touching. I have really been pushing the popsicles today! Dr Ford also gave him a prescription for Omnicef to be taken daily for the next 30 days. So here is my prayer request: that his current illness will pass quickly, that his tummy will not be too badly damaged from the longterm antibiotic treatment, that his body will get its strength up before his surgery, that the procedures will go well, and that his recovery will be quick and flawless. If you guys don't mind saying a prayer or more for him, I would greatly appreciate it!

Wes was away for SWAT training at Blackwater from Sunday through 12:30am Thursday. Since he got back earlier than expected, he decided to go in to work for his day shift Thursday instead of taking it off as he had planned. Since Wes's birthday was on Wednesday, the kids and I were going to decorate and bake him a cake yesterday for when he got home from work so we could celebrate his birthday. I met my friend Carrie for lunch at 11:30, and right after I left, his Captain called me on my cell phone. At first, from the sound of his voice, I thought he was calling to get some dirt on Wes that he could use at work to tease him for his birthday. He then, calmly, let me know that Wes was at the ER and that he had gotten rearended...hard. Hard enough that his patrol car no longer has a trunk. Chesska is fine, thank the Lord! So, we spent yesterday afternoon at Watauga Medical Center, watching Wes go through MRI, CT Scans, and X Rays. His bones are fine, but he has multiple muscle tears, ligament tears, and bulged discs from the base of his head, through his sacrum. His sternum is badly bruised from the seat belt, and had initially knocked the wind out of him. I am getting ready this minute to take the kids to my mom's for an overnight stay so I can help get his muscles to relax. I will be getting a lot of massage practice this weekend! He is wanting to get completely better before 10-21, which is when he leaves for Manta in Wilmington, NC, for more SWAT training. Please pray for his healing in the meantime, if you do not mind. I love you all and you are in my prayers, too!

I don't know what the deal is with my dad. He has been in construction for 29 years, has been a contractor for 20, has been a finish carpenter and master carpenter in Boone for 8. In 29 years, my dad has never gotten hurt...ever. In July, my dad was rearended while driving home from work and had 173 stitches to put his scalp, arteries, and nerves back together. Today he called to let me know that he pinched a section of his finger off at work while hanging timbers. Yeah. Clear off. Maybe turning 50 on Sept. 28th has something to do with it...who knows! Part of me is praying that the doctor can re-attach it, seeing as the man uses his hands A LOT for work, every day. The other part of me is just thankful that it is only part of his index finger. A huge timber that was being hung slipped and happened to pinch my dad's finger between the timber and the wall near where he was working. If he had been bending over to tie his shoe or pick something up, it would have done the same thing to his head. Growing up, I never knew my dad had such a dangerous job, but between today and Jason's injury two years ago, I am very thankful that they are both able to walk, and in one piece...well, maybe not dad at the moment, but you get the point. Well, here's to the men who build the multi-million dollar homes, and to the men who build the tiny shacks, because not everyone would do it.

The kids seem to enjoy the church nursery I have been painting!
The "Love One Another" wall.

One of the ministry walls.

Our new "Super Rocket".
Yes, I am husbandless until late Wednesday night, which happens to be his birthday. Wes is currently on the coast of NC at the Blackwater camp doing SWAT training. If any of you are keeping up with national current events, Blackwater is under investigation for some things and a lot of protesters have been acting up around them, so keep Wes' safety in your prayers. They have a huge arsenal there, so I am sure they can protect themselves, but nonetheless, it isn't a place I'd want to go to right now.
We did buy our new car this past week. We got a Nissan Xterra, and I LOVE it. It drives so great, and it actually fits in the Boone parking spaces that the Jeep couldn't. The kids like it and Wes is really liking it, too. He likes it well enough that he is talking about getting himself an old used one and trading his truck in for it. I put a picture of it up above if you want to see it. It has tinted windows and 16's, so I am getting used to having to climb up into it! It reminds me of my senior year when I was driving my 4Runner and Val told me I looked like a "bad mammajamma" in it. I am truly just so happy that I have a car that runs!!!!!
Well, the present I wanted to get for Wes was out of my price range. You know I got him Braves tickets for our anniversary, so I thought I'd get him tickets to see the Cowboys play the Panthers on Dec 22 for his b-day (Wednesday). Well, I did not realize how much cheaper baseball was than football. Now I am on a search for a b-day gift within 3 days...very not like me! We'll see what I find. I am just glad that my Christmas shopping is finished so I can just celebrate Jesus' birth and not have all the running to do!

So, I am going to be painting the church nursery this week and trying to get it finished so that we can go to a new church. I know many of you think I should just go and let them finish painting themselves, but I don't break a commitment...even if people have been nasty to me there. I have heard a lot of good things about Three Forks, so that will be the first church we try.

The A-Team have been a bit wild lately. I think it is the Fall air. That cooler air doesn't drain as much energy as the Summer hot and humid air, so they have been a bit draining of my energy! That, and they are wrecking my housework, decorating the floor with the freshly washed and folded clothes. I think I will take them on an Autumnal scavenger hunt one afternoon this week. Maybe do some Fall and Halloween crafts or somethings with the treasures they find. We are going to bake cut-out sugar cookies in Fall shapes this afternoon and "paint" them with different colored icings and sugar. We are also going to have to plan this year's Fall Party at Nana's that we do every year.

I starting writing last night...wish me luck!

I hope you are all well and happy. You are in my prayers! I love you all!
