Aiden was having a "bad ear day" and even the Elmo socks didn't get him to smile. = (
As many of you know, Aiden has had quite the struggle throughout the past two years with feeling good. He was born in respiratory distress, which attributed to his asthma. He began severe seasonal and environmental allergies at four months old. Whenever his allergies cause a wee bit of nasal congestion, he developes an ear infection that will last two weeks and will only go away with antibiotics and prescription decongestants. He averages one ear infection every three weeks. So yesterday, when he woke up from his nap lethargic and with a temperature of 102.8, I knew it was his ears again. After all, he spent two hours in the morning the previous day outside playing in the sand by Nana's creek, so he had to get some nosey yuck Saturday night! This morning, he was still lethargic and his fever would not drop for Tylonel and Motrin. We already had an appointment scheduled with a local ear/nose/throat specialist, so I brought him in to see Dr. Ford before calling the pediatrician's office. Well, Dr. Ford got an earful when he came into the room so little guy is now scheduled for tubes to be put in his ears, an adnoidectomy, and allergy testing to be done on my birthday, November 13. He does have bilateral acute otitis media, sinusitis. allergic rhinitis, and tonsilitis currently. This is the first time it involved the tonsils, so I am hoping it will also be the last since he refuses to eat. The tonsils are swollen so largely that they are touching. I have really been pushing the popsicles today! Dr Ford also gave him a prescription for Omnicef to be taken daily for the next 30 days. So here is my prayer request: that his current illness will pass quickly, that his tummy will not be too badly damaged from the longterm antibiotic treatment, that his body will get its strength up before his surgery, that the procedures will go well, and that his recovery will be quick and flawless. If you guys don't mind saying a prayer or more for him, I would greatly appreciate it!
